Review "False Friends"

REVIEW 12 Oct 2010 librarything.com for:
"False Friends: Faux Amis: Book One" by Ellie Malet Spradbery:

A clever and very well set out reference book. I thought I was fairly fluent in French...this little book has proved me very wrong.

I really liked the author's comments throughout, and found myself chuckling at how badly wrong we can be when struggling to make ourselves understood in France and French-speaking countries.

I would most definitely recommend this to students of the French language and to those travelling for business or pleasure.

The next volume is on the way!

REVIEW for "False Friends: Faux Amis: Book One" by Ellie Malet Spradbery

Why, oh, why, did I not have this book when I was trying (and failing) to learn enough French to pass an oral exam at 'O' level (that dates me).
This is a must for anyone travelling not only in France but any French-speaking part of the world. It is compact and very easy to use. It provides those words and phrases that are often needed but frequently misunderstood. Great Christmas presents for the grandchildren because they are now at the stage of going on school trips, and this book will be just what they need.

Unblocking my site

Hah! The previous blog was aimed at somebody else's site. And there was I thinking myself at the cutting edge of technology.

Furthermore, this site has 'blocked'. But while I attempt to sort it out, please do contact me on my e-mail address: malet@supanet.com. Any comments on France or French are welcome.

Bloggers of the Round Table: A milli-second is all it takes

My cousin reacts like this to The Daily Mail. The hilarious thing about it is that she calls herself a socialist; in fact, in their ivory tower, the 'Pharisees' seem totally out of touch with the majority of (human) people.
